“Snowbird” is Not a Cuss Word

Gull on Ice

A seagull stands on ice-covered Thomas Basin during our recent cold snap.

After our first winter vacation 2 years ago, we decided the southwest desert is a pretty nice place to take a break from Ketchikan’s dark rainy winter nights, leaving us refreshed and ready for another summer on the boat. We no longer speak disparagingly of “snowbirds.”

During this winter’s break we make a long drive in the little RoadTrek van to Florida and back.  With “lower 48” winters being what they are these days, we really didn’t find any warm weather until southern Florida.  We saw plenty of new country, made some new friends, and managed to squeeze in some time at the  Seattle Boat Show.  Now we’re back in Ketchikan and getting ready for a spring filled with boat maintenance, and then a summer of sailing southeast Alaska.

The KYC web page has suffered a little in our absence, but now we’re ready to keep it up to date…check back here for the latest happenings, and send an email or leave a comment if there’s something you’d like to see here.
