Festive Friday

Once again it was our pleasure to host a Waggoner’s flotilla at our 4th of July Friday night hamburger feed, and welcome them to Alaska.  This group consisted of 6 boats, and we filled the clubhouse to the brim with over 60 members and guests. During the evening the rainy weather cleared, so the crowd was able to overflow onto the dock area.

Waggoners publisher Mark Bunzel presented the club with a copy of “Exploring Southeast Alaska” by Don and Reanne Douglass, and a two-part Inside Passage Route Planning Chart to hang on the wall.  The entire evening was upbeat, and everyone had a good time.

One of the cruisers in the group, Don Fife, is a professional trumpet player and bugler, and serenaded those present with some outstanding American patriotic solos.  At sundown, 9:30 p.m., he returned to help retire the colors to the sound of “Retreat,” then played a perfectly executed “Taps.”

The Fourth of July is always a busy day for some folks–especially to the Strait family who participated in the noon parade, then hosted the festivities at the clubhouse.  Be sure and thank them for another job well done!
