Quick Action Saves a Life

Help! Help! Help!

Robert Davis was sleeping on the Davis’s sailboat in Thomas Basin when he awakened to someone calling for help. He investigated, and found an intoxicated person had fallen into the water and couldn’t get back onto the dock. Robert managed to reach the victim in time, pulled him up by his belt onto the dock and then called his wife, Cindi, to bring towels to help dry and insulate the victim while they waited for the ambulance.

Thanks to the Davis’s quick action, the victim survived his swim–it could have turned out worse.

The lessons here are clear: The docks can be dangerous places, especially for inebriated folks; there are very few ladders or places where the average swimmer can exit the water; and folks who live aboard can be instrumental in keeping the docks safe and responding to emergencies in the harbor.

We can all thank Robert and Cindi for being alert, responsive, and doing what needed to be done.
