Sail Racing Season Ends

Capt. Jim Dahl displays the Cake at Thursday’s potluck

The last Thursday of August marked the end of this summer sailboat racing season.

Commodore Schulz attended the after-race potluck, and had a few words for the sailboat skippers.  Sail fleet Captain Jim Dahl marked the occasion with a cake, and thanked sailors for their participation.

This season was a success in every way–many of the sailors were new to racing and showed marked improvement over the summer. Only a couple of races were cancelled due to weather, but the after-race potluck went ahead in each case.  The overall atmosphere was somewhat less competitive and more friendly, and everyone had fun.

A number of folks deserve thanks for helping to make this season what it was–the KYC board of trustees who decided to sponsor sailboat races again; Sail Fleet Captain Jim Dahl, who spearheaded the program; Rear Commodore Judith McQuerry who made sure the after-race potluck happened, Molly Strait and family who personally prepared much of the food and hosted the Thursday evening potlucks, and others.

So here’s to the end of a successful season, and we’re hoping for an equally fun season next year!
