Thomas Basin Remodel Starts

IMG_3223Yacht Club users still in town will have noticed a big change in access to the float 2 location and the KYC clubhouse. This week has marked the start of the much needed rebuild of the Thomas Basin bulkhead and wall behind the Salvation Army building, starting at the ramp leading to Float 2 and the KYC floats and clubhouse. The project has several components, the first of which was evident today, as the bus shelter and bathroom’s have been removed to storage, fencing put up, and access to the float from the parking lot shut down. Piling will be pulled, the ramp is to be removed, replaced and relocated, as well as new electric, phone and sewer & water utility service installed.

Steak Night

Hello Yacht Club Members!

Hello Yacht Club Members!

Here we are in the middle of September…Summer is over…leaves are turning and the first steak night is upon us!

Time to get your reservations in for this Friday night 6-8pm.

It’s a great chance to be with friends and brag about all the fish you caught this summer (and the big one that got away!) or how you were the only sailboat out for the last Thursday night race or about how you’re headed somewhere warm and dry as the rest of us are stuck in the sideways rain or…. You get the idea!

So just respond to this email and we’ll get the steaks!

See you at the club!

Hello Yacht Club Members!

We should have done the Thursday sailing one more week!

Tomorrow (Friday) is the last Hamburger night of the year!
And in just 2 weeks (9/18) we’ll have the first Steak night of the fall.

On October 6th, at the membership meeting, we hope to have someone from BAM construction talk about how the upcoming construction in Thomas Basin will affect us.

Other Ideas for activities include game nights, movie nights, Monday Night Football and more!

This Week at Your Yacht Club

Hello Yacht Club Members, Wow! What an exciting week!

Congrats to Team Elsie Piddock for their win in the R2AK on Friday! They had some great stories at the Friday night BBQ….

And more congrats to teams MOB Mentality and Por Favor who after more than a week and 700 miles had a down to the wire finish for 2nd place!

More teams are on their way!

This week looks action packed too…we have the usual Thursday night race and Friday night BBQ….on Saturday we have the “Gravina to Port” race (I sure hope Team Elsie Piddock doesn’t enter or I’m sure it would be another race for second!) and then another big day on Sunday…

The National Power Boaters Association will be here with 11- 42′ to 58′ boats and have invited us to join them on their boats for a predicted log race on Sunday. They would like us to be time keepers for the 3.5 to 4 hour course, lunch provided. (You just have to write down the time when the skipper calls “mark” at control points). I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Sounds like a great way to spend some time on a really nice boat! Be at the club Sunday morning at 9-ish. They start at 9:30-10am at Thomas Basin.

Then, after a day on the water we’re having a party…Come celebrate boating, fathers day and the summer solstice….The Power Boaters, The Round Gavina Racers and the R2AK Racers will join club members for the evening. This will be a great chance to tap into a wealth of boating knowledge and a bunch of boating tales while listening to great music and eating great food! This special event will be catered by Garcia’s Galley and music provided by Dave Rubin (remember opening day?) Cocktail hour at 5:30, dinner at 6:30. The cost for this great party is only $20 for members and $25 for others.

We’re having a great time at the Ketchikan Yacht Club….Hope you can join us!
See you at the club!

Gravina to Port race

Hello Sailors!

The Gravina to Port Race will be going on this Saturday, June 20th. This is an exciting, all day race where we circumnavigate Gravina that takes around 12 hours.

Starting Time will be 08:00 with an UPWIND start. Start and end buoy is WR6. GPS time will be recorded for finish stats.

All sailboats are welcome to attend. I know that some of you have sailboats not really suited for our Thursday night sprints but would REALLY shine with a long marathon- and besides, who needs a little bit more of a reason to enjoy a nice long sail AROUND “NOWHERE”!!

Here’s hoping we can have a spinnaker run that lasts 6 hours!

Please RSVP to me privately–

Thank you ,
Mackenzie Dahl.
